Perform restores

Access Gateway can restore configurations from a backup.

If you backed up configurations in Access Gateway version 2024.9.2 or earlier, you can only restore them to versions 2024.9.2 or earlier.

Restore operations can take several minutes or more depending on the number of apps, number of defined data stores, and other configurations. During restore operations, the Access Gateway cluster is unavailable.

Before starting a restore, ensure that sufficient time is available. Consider scheduling restores during a maintenance window on Production Access Gateway clusters.

View backups after a restore operation

Depending on the selected backup and system state, the number of backups displayed in Access Gateway after a restore operation may vary. Common scenarios:

  • If you restore the earliest backup, no earlier backups are considered to exist and therefore aren't displayed.
  • Access Gateway doesn't show backups that are dated after a restore operation.
  • You can only restore a later backup after you've restored an earlier backup if you download the backup from a different appliance.
  • If you restore a backup stored on another appliance, backups from dates earlier than your backup are displayed.
  • Access Gateway doesn't display backups from before the date you upgraded from a version that doesn't support backups to one that does. Contact Okta Support to obtain these backups.
