Sample flows for new orgs
Sample flows are a curated set of introductory flows that are designed to help you explore Okta Workflows. These flows use read-only actions to demonstrate core automation concepts without modifying your org's data. Super admins and Workflows admins in new orgs or orgs that haven't created a flow can install the flows with a single click from a banner.
Included flows
Each sample flow is designed to demonstrate a specific Workflows building block.
| Flow name | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Hello World (Date & Time) | A basic flow that outputs the current system time. Use this to understand the relationship between triggers and actions. |
| Identify Inactive Okta Users | A scheduled flow that queries the Okta API for users who haven't logged in recently. This flow demonstrates Workflow's automation and reporting capabilities. |
| Get User Groups | A flow that retrieves all group memberships for a specific user ID. This flow demonstrates how to pass content between cards. |
Installation
To add these flows to your org, click Add sample flows on the home page banner.
Okta Workflows automatically creates a folder named Sample Flows containing the three pre-configured flows. They're inactive by default. If the banner isn't visible, you can manually install the Getting Started with Okta Workflows template from the Templates tab.
Access
Sample flows are available to super admins and Workflows admins. If you're using role-based access control at the folder level, you can assign the appropriate permissions to grant users access to view or edit the flows.
Sharing flows with your organization
As an admin, you can use these flows in demos to help onboard other team members. Keep the following in mind:
-
These flows perform read actions only. They're safe to explore and run without the risk of modifying production data.
-
Users can duplicate these flows into their own folders to experiment with adding new cards or changing the logic.
-
Use the Identify Inactive Okta Users flow to show stakeholders how much manual work is saved through automated reporting.
