Distributing Okta Android apps outside the Google Play Store

Okta provides an alternative way to access Okta Mobile and Okta Verify Android installation software (APK files) to help support our customers where the Google Play Store and Google Services are not available (for example, in China). You can download Okta Mobile and Okta Verify Android installation software from the Downloads page (Settings > Downloads) and distribute it to your end users. You can deliver APKs to your end users in a number of ways; however, users must configure their devices to allow applications to be installed from sources other than the device's App store.

Additionally, when Google services are not available (for example, in China), several features of Okta Mobile and Okta Verify are not functional, including, but not limited to, the ability to enroll users in Okta Mobility Management (OMM) from Okta Mobile, as well as the ability for your users to authenticate into your org using Push Notifications from Okta Verify.

Okta strongly discourages off-market distribution of the Okta Mobile and Okta Verify applications. We recommend that you install Okta Mobile and Okta Verify applications from the Google Play store whenever possible, and use the alternative method detailed here only when the Google Play Store is unavailable.
