Enable the new Okta End-User Experience

You can use this guide to enable the new end user experience for an existing organization and migrate your users from the old dashboard to the new dashboard. New organizations will be given access to the new dashboard by default.

Prerequisites

To Enable the End-User Experience, you must first enable First Party Apps for your org. This feature will be enabled by default for orgs once it has moved to GA, but you must have Super Admin permissions in order to enable the experience or prevent access to the old dashboard.

Enable the experience for specific Groups and allow users to opt in

Instead of enabling the new Okta End-User Experience for an entire Org, you can instead set it as an opt-in option for specific groups. This allows your users to participate in the new experience when they're ready, eliminating any potential problems that could occur from users who are unaware of the new UI.

  1. From the Admin Dashboard, navigate to Applications> Add Applications
  2. Search for the End User Dashboard with Active filter enabled
  3. In the Sign On Policy tab, click Add Rule
  4. Title your new rule as Enable Access to Dashboard for Groups in the Rule Name field

  5. Under Conditions > People , select The Following Groups and Users option and add the names of specific groups that you want to offer access to the new experience
  6. Click Save
  7. In the Sign On Policy tab for the Okta End User Dashboard First Party App, ensure that your new rule has the highest priority
  8. Navigate to Applications > Add Applications and search for the Okta Browser Plugin with Active filter enabled
  9. Repeat steps 2-7 for the Okta Browser Plugin First Party app.

Note: If you do not repeat steps 3-7 for the Okta Browser Plugin, you will prevent your users from accessing their plugin within your org. Creating a sign on policy for both the Okta End User Dashboard and the Okta Browser Plugin is required.

Enable the experience for all users in your Org and allow users to opt in

  1. From the Admin Dashboard, navigate to Applications> Add Applications
  2. Search for the Okta End User Dashboard with Active filter enabled
  3. In the Sign On Policy tab, click Add Rule
  4. Title your new rule as Enable Access to Dashboard for Everyone in the Rule Name field

  5. Under Conditions , select The Following Groups and Users option and add any users assigned the application
  6. Click Save
  7. In the Sign On Policy tab for the Okta End User Dashboard First Party App, ensure that your new rule has the highest priority.
  8. Navigate to Applications > Add Applications and search for the Okta Browser Plugin with Active filter enabled
  9. Repeat steps 2-7 for the Okta Browser Plugin First Party app.

Note: If you do not repeat steps 3-7 for the Okta Browser Plugin you will prevent your users from accessing their plugin within your org. Creating a sign on policy for both the Okta End User Dashboard and the Okta Browser Plugin is required.

Once you have finished adding sign-on policies for both the Okta End-User Dashboard and the Okta Browser Plugin, your users should now receive a notification on their dashboards that prompts them to try the new experience. Once they have switched to the new experience, an option is available by default for end-users to switch back to the old experience. If you want to prevent users from being able to access the old experience, you can also Limit access to the Okta End-User Dashboard for either groups or your entire org.
