Enable the new Okta End-User Experience

You can use this guide to enable the new end-user experience for an existing organization and migrate your users to the new Okta End-User Dashboard. New organizations will be given access to the new dashboard by default, so existing orgs can use this guide to initiate migration to the new experience at their own pace.

About admin roles for this task

  • You must have Super Admin permissions in order to enable the experience or prevent access to the old dashboard.

  • If you choose to deny access to the new Okta End-User Dashboard, affected users will not experience the change in access until their next sign in.

Necessary info for a successful rollout

  • Okta will eventually end support for the old Okta End-User Dashboard. Refer to our support article on frequently asked questions and end-of-of life dates for the old Okta End-User Dashboard here.

  • After enabling the new experience for your users, Okta recommends that you remove access to the old dashboard to prevent Okta from changing the experience for your users automatically.

  • If you do not Remove access to the Okta End-User Dashboard by the end-of-life date, Okta will move all your users who are not yet migrated.

  • Policies created for the Okta Dashboard only apply to the new Okta End-User Dashboard. The old Okta end-user dashboard only evaluates the default Okta sign-on policy. If you have both dashboard experiences enabled, your users will have different sign-on policies applied to them based on what dashboard they access. We do not recommend customers be in this state for an extended period of time.

Enable the experience for specific Groups and allow users to opt in

Instead of enabling the new Okta End-User Experience for an entire Org, you can instead set it as an opt-in option for specific groups. This allows your users to participate in the new experience when they're ready, eliminating any potential problems that could occur from users who are unaware of the new UI.

  1. From the Admin Console, navigate to Applications and filter by ACTIVE.
  2. Search for the Okta Dashboard .
  3. In the Sign On Policy tab, click Add Rule.
  4. Title your new rule as Enable Access to Dashboard for Groups in the Rule Name field.

  5. Under Conditions > People , select The Following Groups and Users option and add the names of specific groups that you want to offer access to the new experience.
  6. Click Save.
  7. In the Sign On Policy tab for the Okta Dashboard app, ensure that your new rule has the highest priority.

Enable the experience for all users in your org and allow users to opt in

  1. From the Admin Console, navigate to Applications and filter by ACTIVE.
  2. Search for the Okta Dashboard .
  3. In the Sign On Policy tab, click Add Rule.
  4. Title your new rule as Enable Access to Dashboard for Everyone in the Rule Name field.

  5. Under Conditions , select The Following Groups and Users option and add the Everyone group.
  6. Click Save.
  7. In the Sign On Policy tab for the Okta Dashboard app, ensure that your new rule has the highest priority.

Once you have finished creating sign-on policies for the new Okta End-User Dashboard, a link will be displayed on end user dashboards to try the new experience. Once they have switched to the new experience, an option is available by default for end-users to switch back to the old experience.

To ensure that sign-on policies are applied consistently end users, and to prevent any issues occurring after the old Okta End-User Dashboard is deprecated, we highly recommend that you Remove access to the Okta End-User Dashboard for your users after you have enabled the new experience.
