Edit user attributes

Edit user attributes when user information such as an email address or other information changes. The option to edit attributes is not available if the user is not sourced by Okta.

To edit user's entitlements, see Manage user entitlements instead. You can only edit user entitlements if you're subscribed to Okta Identity Governance and you've enabled Governance Engine for the app.

  1. In the Admin Console, go to Directory People.
  2. Optional. Enter a user's first name, primary email, or username in the search field and then click the Search icon.
  3. Optional. Perform an advanced user search:
    1. Click Advanced Search.
    2. Select a search filter from the Choose field list. You can filter your search results by created or updated date and time, or you can select base or custom attributes to filter your results.
    3. Select a filter option:
      • Starts with: Select this option to filter results to those that start with specific letters.
      • Equals: Select this option to filter results to those that match the value that you enter.
      • Contains: Select this option to search for users where the filtered attribute field contains the specified value. The Contains search operator is only available for certain attributes. It's displayed in the Advanced search operator dropdown list if it's supported.

        The contains filter applies only to the firstName, lastName, email, and login attributes. The search term must contain at least three characters.

      • Greater than: Select this option to filter results to those that are greater than the value that you enter.
      • Less than: Select this option to filter results to those that are less than the value that you enter.
    4. Enter a search value in the Value field.
    5. Optional. Click Add filter to add an additional filter and then repeat steps a to d. Click Clear all filters to clear the ones you've already entered.
    6. Click Search.
  4. Click a username in the Person & username column.
  5. Click the Profile tab.
  6. Click Edit.
  7. Edit the user attributes, scroll down, and then click Save.
