Manage Cross App Access connections

Early Access release

When Cross App Access is available for an app, a Manage Connections tab appears on the app page in the Okta Admin Console. On this tab, you can add both requesting and resource apps. When you add a requesting app, it can access data from the app that you're configuring. When you add a resource app, the app that you're configuring can access data from the resource app.

Before you begin

  • You have an admin role with permission to manage the apps that you want to configure.
  • Cross App Access is available for the apps that you want to configure.

Grant consent to an app

  1. In the Admin Console, go to ApplicationsApplications.

  2. Search for and select an app.
  3. Go to the Manage Connections tab.
  4. To configure requesting apps, go to the Apps granted consent section and click Add apps. The first time you configure Cross App Access for an app, this button is called Add requesting apps.
  5. Search for and select one or more apps.
  6. Click Save. The apps that you selected in the previous step appear in the Apps providing consent section with a status of Managed.
  7. To configure resource apps, go to the Apps providing consent section and click Add apps. The first time you configure Cross App Access for an app, this button is called Add resource apps.
  8. Search for and select one or more apps.
  9. Click Save. The apps that you selected in the previous step appear in the Apps providing consent section with a status of Managed.

Modify a managed connection

  1. On the Manage Connection tab, click the three vertical dots next to a requesting or resource app.
  2. To disable the connection, click Disable managed connection. The app shows a status of Not Managed.

When you disable a connection, Okta blocks new Identity Assertion Authorization Grant token exchange requests for that app. Existing access tokens are managed by the resource app and continue to work.

  3. To remove a connection, disable it and then click Remove connection. The app no longer appears on the Manage Connections tab.
  4. To re-enable the connection for an unmanaged app, click Enable managed connection. The app shows a status of Managed.
