Add custom attributes to the default group profile

The User-friendly group name and description feature allows super admins or users with Manage group permissions to use the endUserDisplayName and endUserDisplayDescription group profile attributes for Okta-sourced groups.

If you deleted the endUserDisplayName and endUserDisplayDescription group profile attributes from Okta's default group profile and need them again, complete the following steps:

  1. In the Admin Console, go to Directory Profile Editor.
  2. Click the Groups tab.

  3. Click Okta group.

  4. Click Add attribute.

  5. Set the Data type as String.

  6. Set the Variable name as endUserDisplayName or endUserDisplayDescription. The variable name must be an exact match to avoid errors.

  7. Set the Attribute length:

    • endUserDisplayName: The attribute length must be less than 255 characters.

    • endUserDisplayDescription: The attribute length must be less than 1024 characters.

  8. Leave the Attribute required checkbox unselected.

  9. Click Save to make these attributes available for all Okta-sourced groups.
