Perform admin renomination
Admin renomination is the process of adding a node to a cluster and then making it the admin node.
The nodes in your cluster must be version 2020.8.3 or higher. If you have a worker node on version 2023.12.0 or higher, then the admin node must also be on version 2023.12.0 or higher. See Backup and restore and Upgrade Access Gateway .
The current admin node manages the renomination process until the nominated node becomes the new admin node. The new admin mode then takes over and completes the renomination process.
The original admin node remains available for use, but changes to a standalone instance.
After the process is complete, you can decommission the original admin node or return it to the cluster as a worker node.
This diagram describes each stage of the renomination workflow:
Admin renomination tasks
- Add a new worker node to the cluster or select an existing worker node. This is the node that you want to make into an admin node. Upgrade it to the latest Access Gateway version, if required.
- Verify that the worker node that you want to nominate as the new admin node is in the same network zone as the current admin node. If you're adding a new instance, add it to the same network zone as the current admin node.
- Upgrade the current admin node to the latest Access Gateway version, if required, or install the cluster-manager-package.
- Connect to the nominated worker node and begin the admin renomination process.
- Connect to the existing admin node and continue the admin renomination process.
- Return to the nominated worker node and obtain its IP address.
- Add appropriate DNS entries for the replacement admin node.
