Stage a campaign

Preview and validate a scheduled campaign's scope and reviewer assignments before launching.

About this task

Early Access release. See Enable self-service features.

Staging a scheduled campaign allows you to preview all review items before the campaign goes live. By staging a campaign, you can validate its identity and resource scopes, check reviewer assignments, resolve any issues, and reassign reviewers as needed. This process ensures you can launch with confidence, knowing that all campaign items are routed to the correct people.

Before you begin

  • Sign in as a super admin or an access certifications admin. Only super admins can stage campaigns that govern Okta admin roles.
  • Schedule an identity or resource campaign with a launch date. See Create identity campaigns or Create resource campaigns.
  • Ensure that the campaign's status is Scheduled. The campaign's scheduled launch day must be more than one day away and less than seven days away.

Procedure

  1. In the Admin Console, go to Identity Governance > Access Certifications > Certification campaigns.
  2. Go to the Scheduled tab.
  3. Find the campaign that you want to stage, and click Stage campaign.

If the campaign's launch date isn't within the next seven days, Okta displays the date on which staging becomes available instead of the Stage campaign option. Okta also sends an email to notify you when a campaign that you created becomes eligible for staging.

  4. Staging can take a period of time to finish. When the process is complete, Okta sends an email to inform you that the campaign is staged.

While staging is in progress, you can't launch, edit, or delete the campaign, although you can duplicate it. You can check the campaign's staging status on the Scheduled tab.

  5. Click Open staged campaign, and review the summary of the total number of review items, reviewers, and users in the campaign.

You can also review this summary from the Staged Campaign Summary report.

  6. Review and resolve launch-blocking errors, if any. You can edit the campaign configuration as required to resolve errors. After you've resolved any errors, restage the campaign.
  7. Click Staged Campaign Details to verify the counts of review items, unique reviewers, and identities that you expect for the campaign.
  8. Preview the campaign's review items to verify identities, resources, reviewers, reviewer levels (for multi-level campaigns), and reviewer statuses (active or inactive).
  9. Reassign review items individually, in bulk, or at any level for multi-level campaigns, entering a business justification for each reassignment. Search by user or reviewer names to quickly filter reviewers and select items to reassign in bulk. Any reassignments that you make in staging are carried forward at launch. To reassign review items, follow the steps in Reassign review items in staging.

You can review campaign details, what reassignments were made, and the justifications for those reassignments by generating and viewing the Staged Campaign Summary report.

  10. When you're ready, launch the campaign.

Staging gates a campaign launch only while it's in progress. After staging completes, you can choose to launch the campaign at any time. You can also make any adjustments to the campaign until the campaign start date. See Modify a scheduled campaign for the Launch action.
