Authorization

When you first add a Slack Admin card to a flow, Okta prompts you to create a connection for that channel. You must be a member of that channel.

Setting up a connection allows you to save your account information and reuse that connection next time you build a flow with the connector.

You can create multiple unique connections and manage them from the Connections page in the Okta Workflows Console.

Requirements

  • You need a Business+ or Enterprise Grid plan with Slack to establish connections for the Slack Admin connector.
  • On Business+, either a Slack Owner or Admin can create connections. To keep using the Slack Admin connector without permission errors, the account used to create the connection must remain as an Owner or an Admin.
  • On Enterprise Grid, only an Org Owner can create connections. To keep using the Slack Admin connector without permission errors, the account used to create the connection must remain as an Owner or Admin.
  • When creating a connection for Enterprise Grid, make sure that you install the Okta OAuth app on the org, not just a workspace within the org. Otherwise, the flow returns an authorization error.
  • With an Enterprise Grid connection, the SCIM operations performed by Slack Admin connector cards operate across the entire org, not just individual workspaces. Therefore, make sure that you retrieve the identity information, for example User or Group, from the Organization Admin page instead of individual workspaces. See Slack API documentation.
  • The connection can only perform actions on accounts with the same or lesser permissions. For example, if you generate a connection using an Admin account, that connection can only change details for other Admin or Member accounts. The connection can't change any Owner details.

Set up a new Slack Admin connection

To create a connection from an action card:

  1. Click New Connection.

  2. Add a Connection Nickname. This is useful if you plan to create multiple connections to share with your team.

  3. Click Create.

  4. Select a Slack account. If you aren't already signed in to a Slack account, the dialog prompts you to sign in.

  5. Click Authorize to grant access to your Slack data. This allows the flow to send messages on your behalf.

You can reuse this connection any time that you use the Slack card in a flow. You can also set up and save multiple connections to share them with your teammates.
